These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Focus Ex Chrome Extension ("Extension"). By installing or using the Extension, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
You must be at least 16 years old (or 13 years old in the United States) to use this Extension. By using Focus Ex, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under the required age, you may not install or use the Extension.
Focus Ex enhances reading attention through text transformations and interaction features including skimming mode, deep reading mode, sentence-level navigation, and text customization. Paid users gain access to premium AI-powered features including text summarization, explanation, and content search ("Find me" mode), limited to 40 requests per month.
We collect and store certain user data to provide Focus Ex's functionality. For authenticated users, we store email addresses, user IDs, names (if provided), preferences, reading analytics, and subscription information in Firebase Firestore. Usage data including feature interactions and website domains is sent to Mixpanel for analytics. For AI features, article text and user prompts are sent to OpenAI for processing; OpenAI does not retain this data after processing. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for complete details on data collection, storage, and your rights.
The extension is free to install and use with basic features. Premium features (AI-powered summarization, explanation, and content search) are available through a paid subscription. New subscribers receive a 30-day free trial period. After the trial, subscriptions renew monthly. AI features are limited to 40 requests per month, resetting each billing period. The renewal date can be checked via the Stripe page accessible from the "Account" tab of the extension. Users can cancel their subscription anytime through Stripe; access to premium features continues until the end of the current billing period.
Consumer Protection Disclaimer: Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory consumer rights. If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, it shall not affect the enforceability of the remaining provisions.
Third-Party Liability: Focus Ex uses third-party services including OpenAI for AI-powered features, Stripe for payment processing, Firebase for authentication and data storage, and Mixpanel for analytics. While we ensure secure data transfer and compliance, Focus Ex cannot accept liability for issues directly caused by these third-party services.
Ownership of Content: All intellectual property rights related to Focus Ex, including design, code, and features, are owned by Szabolcs Vatány. Unauthorized reproduction, modification, or redistribution of the extension is prohibited.
User Restrictions: Users are strictly prohibited from reverse-engineering, decompiling, or attempting to derive the source code of the extension.
We may update these Terms. Continued use of the Extension constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hungary. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms will be resolved under Hungarian jurisdiction.
Notification of updates to these Terms and Conditions will be displayed prominently on the news popup within the extension. Registered users will also be informed via email.
